NEW BALANCES

History intertwines with modernity, creating new patterns of space and life

In the context of an ancient Tuscan city, this apartment stands out, encapsulating the charm and techniques of medieval “epiphanic” architecture.

The spacious interiors are characterized by decorated ceilings, enhanced by the lighting hidden in the frames at the base of the archways.

The walls are treated with natural lime plaster, smoothed to the point of making the space gently noble: the natural colour evokes an immediate sense of visual comfort, emphasizing the decorations and frescoes with soft pigments used on the ceilings.

The project is further defined by the use of reclaimed herringbone wood, which enhances the elegance and refinement of the context while ensuring that the space does not feel entirely new or out of place. The connection between modernity and tradition is emphasized by the textures of the surfaces and the chosen colour palette

Brass is the material that connects the upper floor, with its more contemporary feel, to the lower floor, which retains a stronger historical identity.

The sculptural spiral staircase, created on-site, features a sinuous form that immediately catches the visitor’s eye; the steps are covered in multicoloured resin, continuing throughout the upper floor, while the spiral structure and the railing are entirely clad in oxidized brass. This balance between the ancient and the modern has been brilliantly preserved in the furnishings.
