Alessandro Squarzi and Alessia Giacobino: the creative duo behind Fortela. Craftsmanship and quality as hallmarks of timeless luxury
Alessandro Squarzi and Alessia Giacobino represent the meeting of two worlds that merge into a new idea of luxury. Fortela is the result of a vision: that of Alessandro Squarzi, who founded the brand ten years ago. Today, Alessandro and Alessia are the soul of Fortela, the creative signatures of a brand that is a natural extension of their own way of being.

Today, Alessandro and Alessia are the soul of Fortela, the creative signatures of a brand that is a natural extension of their own way of being. The concept? To create garments that transcend time, based on the idea that true luxury is wearing something meant to last.

You two share some surprising similarities. Which ones? “Even before we met,” Alessia replies, “Alessandro and I shared a passion for vintage objects.”
“I initially approached vintage more as an amateur,” Alessandro responds, “but it quickly became a great passion. Alessia and I have travelled extensively, gradually building our vast archive of denim, leather, military articles, and vintage pieces. This is how the Fortela imagery was born.”

Today, Alessandro Squarzi is recognised worldwide as a style icon. “Instagram gave me notoriety I hadn’t initially planned. What mattered most to me was gaining credibility, thanks to the quality and refinement of the pieces.”

What does creativity mean for Fortela? “It means exploring cultures, travelling, blending experiences and imaginations. On one hand, there’s the Italian craftsmanship, but there are also other influences, like those from the USA, Mexico, or Navajo culture…”

BOUTIQUE FORTELA | The Fortela Boutique on Via Sirtori, in Milan’s Porta Venezia district, perfectly reflects the mood of the brand.
How did it come about, and what are its defining features?
“It’s a truly exclusive space,” explains Alessia Giacobino, “which I originally bought back in 2009 to house the headquarters of my first brand. When the need arose to combine the men’s and women’s collections in a single showroom, I managed to get the space back from my tenant; it was the perfect solution for Fortela.”
