Cascada de Luz: a retreat suspended between sky, jungle, and ocean
In the heart of Costa Rica, where the jungle meets the waves of the Pacific Ocean, stands Cascada de Luz, a home that appears to float in the golden sunlight. Perched on a lush hillside overlooking the vibrant town of Dominical, this residence captivates at first glance, offering sweeping views of the ocean.

The architecture pays tribute to nature: the roof, composed of perforated panels painted blue, visually merges the house with the marine horizon, while light filters into the interiors, creating ever-changing atmospheres. Access to the home is via a suspended walkway above a bamboo grove.

The beating heart of the home is a central atrium with a floating staircase above a shallow pool, linking the two floors. On the lower level, social spaces – including the lounge, dining area, and terrace – open onto a 24-metre infinity pool, dramatically suspended over a steep slope. More than just a scenic feature, the pool acts as a fluid pathway connecting indoor and outdoor spaces.

Built on challenging terrain, the house meets complexity with ingenuity: hidden reservoirs beneath the garage, a lightweight yet resilient framework that supports the floating roof, and accessible technical passages designed to ensure long-term sustainable maintenance. This home doesn’t simply observe nature; it embraces it, celebrates it, and protects it.
