TRAVELLING AROUND THE WORLD IN 240 SQUARE METRES

29/04/2024

Rich environments, full of charm and personality, where very different inspirations coexist without affecting their essence but enriching it.

An interesting metaphor of Santiago de Chile for this concept is the flat next to the city’s Golf Club, designed and inhabited by Ignacio Pérez-Cotapos, creator of an important lifestyle magazine.

The feature that immediately stands out when walking through each room is the perfect blend of objects, accessories, and furnishings, which gives the curious sensation of“travelling around the world”in 240 square metres, through souvenirs and decorative elements, or the love for art, which explodes prominently through the rich collection of mostly Chilean artists’ paintings, photographs, sculptures, and curious objects.

The attention to colour is almost obsessive in Ignacio’s projects, and in this case, the walls – in a London smoke shade – are specifically designed as a backdrop for the collection, to highlight its eccentricity and strength.

The house has been furnished by the owner in an eclectic, refined and deeply personal way. Interestingly, very little space is given to the bathrooms and the bedroom area, as most of the rooms are dedicated to study, relaxation, reading, meditation, and socializing, inviting you to the pleasure of cultured and intelligent relaxation.

Another original element is the strictly black-and-white chequerboard pattern of the living area floors, composed of lacquered wood planks. In the kitchen, the atmosphere becomes more convivial and relaxed, thanks to the furniture designed by Ignacio, deliberately full of mouldings, to call to mind the contrasting decor of an ancient library.

The master bathroom is worth a visit too, since it is completely covered with geometric patterns of bright black and aqua-green mosaics; it takes us back to dreamy hammams.

Each room plays on the contrast of playful references and cultured quotations, between exotic eclecticism and the rigour of a contemporary dandy; almost a parade of precious Cabinets of Curiosities, in which each element seems to be perfectly set in a unique and personal way.
