THE ROOMS OF THE SOUL

27/11/2024

Elegant furnishings mark this ancient dwelling, thanks to the continuous care of the family who has lived here for over a century

This bright apartment is located in a family palace dating back to the second half of the 19th century, marked by the severe elegance of the eclectic taste of many buildings located in Łódź. Most of the furnishings have remained the same since the ancestors of Zofia moved there.

In the dining room, the large white majolica stove is the dominant element. Next to it is a floor-standing pendulum clock that matches the entire furnishings. The oval table, the chairs, and the sideboards with cornucopia decorations were made by the same cabinetmaker, at the time the palace was built. The herringbone and lozenge parquet flooring in oak is covered with antique carpets. The large hall has unexpected glimpses: hanging over a neoclassical dresser, there is a blue sky painted by a Polish artist.

A large door leads into the square living room with apple-green walls. Curl pediments – facing each other – and a central cartouche top every opening; they match marvellously with the stuccoes that adorn the ceilings of this dwelling with its long memory, still inhabited by the last descendants of the family.

Biedermeier sofas and Russian Empire-era chairs in feathered mahogany are placed in the living room, next to side tables of different shapes and styles. Portraits from different eras, 20th-century paintings, or 19th-century watercolours adorn the walls.
